Insoles

The key to any successful Orthotic treatment is the correct diagnosis and prescription. There are many instances where an Off The Shelf (OTS) or Modular Insole will give you exactly what you need rather than needing a custom made insole.

Insoles are not just used to control flat feet they are used to either reduce the strain through a particular muscle or tendon or offload a specific area of the foot. There are many conditions that insoles are used to help including Plantar Heel Pain/Plantarfasciitis, AchillesTendonopathy, Peroneal Tendonitis, Tibialis Posterior Dysfunction to name a few. Essentially if you have pain in your foot and ankle then insoles could be the best thing you invest in.

Whether it is for a child or an adult, the assessment will enable me to establish whether an insole is a suitable treatment plan and if so which type of insole would be best. In children, insoles are not routinely used for ‘flat feet’ as in the majority of cases their feet will be perfectly normal. However if they are getting regular foot or lower leg pains it is definitely worth them being assessed.

Most children without severe orthopaedic or neurological conditions do really well with OTS insoles which really helps the reduce costs of private treatment.

I keep a stock of the insoles I used most frequently at Oakwood Physiotherapy and this enables me to fit and supply them on the day if appropriate.

If you have an acute injury which would benefit from being offloaded with an insole, then fitting and supplying on the day can make such a difference. I have the tools to make adjustments to the insoles as required to get the optimum prescription needed which can then be altered over time as the injury improves. There are also many alternative Off The Shelf Insoles available that can be ordered in quickly if needed.
